Karen J. Maschke, Ph.D.
Karen J. Maschke is an independent scholar writing a book on the politics and practice of human subjects research. She holds a Ph.D. in political science from Johns Hopkins University and a master’s degree in bioethics from Case Western Reserve University. She has taught political sciences courses at Oakland University in Michigan and the University of Georgia. Dr. Maschke was the 1999-2000 Clinical Bioethics Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Effective May 1, 2003, Dr. Maschke joins the Hastings Center staff as Associate for Ethics and Science Policy and Editor of the Center journal, IRB: Ethics & Human Research.
